Since its founding in 1985 through July 2009, the Foundation has raised $96 million from many generous donors.  Those gifts and grants have expanded and supported services for children, women, heart patients, accident victims, high risk babies, cancer patients, surgical patients, EMS personnel, all levels of health care professionals and countless others seeking services from Mission Hospital.

Highlights include:

The Board of Trustees and staff of Mission Foundation considers every dollar given a reflection of your trust in us to fulfill your gift’s intentions and use it wisely.  To that end, we have earned the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance Charity Seal, meeting all 20 BBB charity standards.  Click the seal to the left to view our report.

Other ways we are good stewards include having a dedicated board of community volunteers.  Our Board of Trustees meets six times a year plus has extensive committees watching over your gifts and grants.  Our Finance Committee makes decisions on releasing funds via written proposals from within Mission Hospital for specific programs and projects, recommending those to the Board of Trustees.  An Audit and Compliance Committee carefully reviews our financial records and works with an outside auditor who annually audits the Foundation, independently of the Hospital audit. 

The Trustees regularly hear reports from Mission departments who have received funds, to better understand and evaluate outcomes of the funds awarded within the Hospital.

The Foundation fulfills a role at Mission in encouraging innovation, expanding staff education and knowledge, acquiring new technologies and bringing “value added” to the patient care and services offered to Western North Carolina families.  Mission is an award-winning Hospital thanks to your generosity and ongoing support provided through Mission Foundation.
